Zico zeroes in on Turkish title
Brazilian legend Zico is hoping to help Fenerbahçe SK wrest the title away from Galatasaray SK as the new Turkish season begins this weekend.

Level pegging
Having previously coached the Japanese national team, Zico has been brought in to replace German coach Christoph Daum as Fenerbahçe look to mark their centenary celebrations with a title success in 2007. As it stands, they are level with Galatasaray with 16 titles each. Zico will start the campaign with midfield reinforcements in the form of Beşiktaş JK's Tümer Metin and Uğur Boral from Gençlerbirligi SK. There are concerns over their striking armoury, with Brazilian Márcio Nobre having left for Beşiktaş and Frenchman Nicolas Anelka unsettled.
Turkish talent
At Galatasaray, Belgian coach Eric Gerets has been concentrating on signing Turkish talent, since the quota system in operation means they cannot take on any more foreign stars, unless plans to offload Czech midfielder Marek Heinz bear fruit. Argentinian midfielder Marcelo Carrusca of CA Estudiantes completed the club's overseas allocation, and Gerets has also brought in defender Tolga Seyhan from FC Shakhtar Donetsk and welcomed back midfielder Okan Buruk following spells at FC Internazionale Milano and Beşiktaş. Striker Ümit Karan's return from a long-term injury may prove to be another major boost for Galatasaray.
Beşiktaş chance
The arrival of Márcio Nobre from Fenerbahçe could prove an equally significant coup for Beşiktaş, who are keen to pick up their first title since 2001/02 – and their eleventh in total - after finishing 29 points adrift of the champions in 2005/06. French coach Jean Tigana has notably signed FC Basel 1893's Argentinian playmaker Matías Delgado. Should he also persuade out-of-contract former FC Bayern München midfielder Zé Roberto to join, Istanbul's big two, who are not set to meet until the first weekend in December, could have a battle on their hands.
